Amos

The Lord speaks through Amos, condemning the neighboring nations of Israel for their sins, including brutal treatment of others, idolatry, and breaking covenants, and warns them of destruction by fire and exile. The Lord also announces judgment on Israel for rejecting God's law, selling the righteous for silver, and profaning God's name, recalling His past deliverance of Israel from Egypt and the wilderness, but notes that Israel has rejected these gifts. The Lord warns of impending judgment and exile, condemning the wealthy for their oppression of the poor and idolatrous practices, and emphasizes God's power and authority as the creator of the universe. The people of Israel are ultimately warned of exile beyond Damascus for their idolatry and disobedience, and the Lord promises to restore the fortunes of Israel, rebuild the ruined cities, and plant them on their land where they will never be uprooted again.
