1 Timothy
Paul writes to Timothy, emphasizing the importance of sound doctrine and promoting love from a pure heart, a good conscience, and a sincere faith. He notes that the law is for the lawless, not the righteous, and expresses gratitude for God's mercy in transforming him from a blasphemer to a servant of Christ. Paul entrusts Timothy with upholding the faith and a good conscience, warning that rejecting these principles can lead to spiritual ruin. He also provides instructions on worship, the role of men and women, and the qualifications for overseers and deacons, emphasizing the importance of self-control, respectability, and a clear conscience. Additionally, Paul advises on how to treat various members of the church, including older men and women, younger men and women, and widows, and provides guidelines for honoring and compensating elders who labor in preaching and teaching.
