Galatians

22But the Scripture declares that the whole world is a prisoner of sin, so that what was promised, being given through faith in Jesus Christ, might be given to those who believe.23Before this faith came, we were held prisoners by the law, locked up until faith should be revealed.24So the law was put in charge to lead us to Christ that we might be justified by faith.25Now that faith has come, we are no longer under the supervision of the law.26You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus,27for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.28There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.29If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.

Luke

27As Jesus was saying these things, a woman in the crowd called out, "Blessed is the mother who gave you birth and nursed you."28He replied, "Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it."

Sermon

In today's readings, we are reminded of the transformative power of faith and the unity it brings. The first reading from Galatians 3:22-29 explains that before the advent of faith, the law served as a guardian. However, with the arrival of faith in Christ, we are no longer confined by the law. Through baptism, we clothe ourselves in Christ, erasing distinctions of race, social status, or gender, making us one in Him. This unity is a testament to the boundless grace of God, who sees beyond earthly divisions to embrace all in His love. The Gospel from Luke 11:27-28 shifts our focus to the true source of blessings. When a woman praises Mary, Jesus redirects her attention to the spiritual realm, emphasizing that true blessedness comes from hearing and keeping God's word. This teaches us that our relationship with God is not about physical ties or outward appearances, but about our commitment to living according to His teachings. In our daily lives, these readings invite us to reflect on our priorities. Let us seek to deepen our faith and live in unity with others, recognizing that our true identity is in Christ. May we strive to keep God's word in our hearts and actions, for it is through this spiritual obedience that we find true blessings and live as one body in Christ.
