A severe drought and locust infestation have devastated the land, prompting a call to mourn, fast, and cry out to the Lord. The day of the Lord is near, bringing a large and mighty army that will devour everything in its path, but the Lord is gracious and compassionate, and if the people return to him, he will relent from sending calamity and instead provide for them. The Lord will also gather all nations to the Valley of Jehoshaphat to judge them for their actions against Israel, punishing them and ultimately making Jerusalem holy and secure, dwelling in Zion as a refuge for His people.
