1And immediately in the morning, after the leaders of the priests had taken counsel with the elders and the scribes and the entire council, binding Jesus, they led him away and delivered him to Pilate2And Pilate questioned him, "You are the king of the Jews?" But in response, he said to him, "You are saying it.3And the leaders of the priests accused him in many things4Then Pilate again questioned him, saying: "Do you not have any response? See how greatly they accuse you.5But Jesus continued to give no response, so that Pilate wondered6Now on the feast day, he was accustomed to release to them one of the prisoners, whomever they requested7But there was one called Barabbas, who had committed murder in the sedition, who was confined with those of the sedition8And when the crowd had ascended, they began to petition him to do as he always did for them9But Pilate answered them and said, "Do you want me to release to you the king of the Jews?10For he knew that it was out of envy that the leaders of the priests had betrayed him11Then the chief priests incited the crowd, so that he would release Barabbas to them instead12But Pilate, responding again, said to them: "Then what do you want me to do with the king of the Jews?13But again they cried out, "Crucify him.14Yet truly, Pilate said to them: "Why? What evil has he done?" But they cried out all the more, "Crucify him.15Then Pilate, wishing to satisfy the people, released Barabbas to them, and he delivered Jesus, having severely scourged him, to be crucified16Then the soldiers led him away to the court of the praetorium. And they called together the entire cohort17And they clothed him with purple. And platting a crown of thorns, they placed it on him18And they began to salute him: "Hail, king of the Jews.19And they struck his head with a reed, and they spit on him. And kneeling down, they reverenced him20And after they had mocked him, they stripped him of the purple, and they clothed him in his own garments. And they led him away, so that they might crucify him21And they compelled a certain passerby, Simon the Cyrenian, who was arriving from the countryside, the father of Alexander and Rufus, to take up his cross22And they led him through to the place called Golgotha, which means, ‘the Place of Calvary.23And they gave him wine with myrrh to drink. But he did not accept it24And while crucifying him, they divided his garments, casting lots over them, to see who would take what25Now it was the third hour. And they crucified him26And the title of his case was written as: THE KING OF THE JEWS27And with him they crucified two robbers: one at his right, and the other at his left28And the scripture was fulfilled, which says: "And with the iniquitous he was reputed.29And the passersby blasphemed him, shaking their heads and saying, "Ah, you who would destroy the temple of God, and in three days rebuild it30save yourself by descending from the cross.31And similarly the leaders of the priests, mocking him with the scribes, said to one another: "He saved others. He is not able to save himself32Let the Christ, the king of Israel, descend now from the cross, so that we may see and believe." Those who were crucified with him also insulted him33And when the sixth hour arrived, a darkness occurred over the entire earth, until the ninth hour34And at the ninth hour, Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, "Eloi, Eloi, lamma sabacthani?" which means, "My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?35And some of those standing near, upon hearing this, said, "Behold, he is calling Elijah.36Then one of them, running and filling a sponge with vinegar, and placing it around a reed, gave it to him to drink, saying: "Wait. Let us see if Elijah will come to take him down.37Then Jesus, having emitted a loud cry, expired38And the veil of the temple was torn in two, from the top to the bottom39Then the centurion who stood opposite him, seeing that he had expired while crying out in this way, said: "Truly, this man was the Son of God.40Now there were also women watching from a distance, among whom were Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James the younger and of Joseph, and Salome41 (and while he was in Galilee, they followed him and ministered to him) and many other women, who had ascended along with him to Jerusalem42And when evening had now arrived (because it was the Preparation Day, which is before the Sabbath43there arrived Joseph of Arimathea, a noble council member, who himself was also awaiting the kingdom of God. And he boldly entered to Pilate and petitioned for the body of Jesus44But Pilate wondered if he had already died. And summoning a centurion, he questioned him as to whether he was already dead45And when he had been informed by the centurion, he gave the body to Joseph46Then Joseph, having bought a fine linen cloth, and taking him down, wrapped him in the fine linen and laid him in a sepulcher, which was hewn from a rock. And he rolled a stone to the entrance of the tomb47Now Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joseph observed where he was laid
1And when the Sabbath had passed, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought aromatic spices, so that when they arrived they could anoint Jesus2And very early in the morning, on the first of the Sabbaths, they went to the tomb, the sun having now risen3And they said to one another, "Who will roll back the stone for us, away from the entrance of the tomb?4And looking, they saw that the stone was rolled back. For certainly it was very large5And upon entering the tomb, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, covered with a white robe, and they were astonished6And he said to them, "Do not become frightened. You are seeking Jesus of Nazareth, the Crucified One. He has risen. He is not here. Behold, the place where they laid him7But go, tell his disciples and Peter that he is going before you into Galilee. There you shall see him, just as he told you.8But they, going out, fled from the tomb. For trembling and fear had overwhelmed them. And they said nothing to anyone. For they were afraid9But he, rising early on the first Sabbath, appeared first to Mary Magdalene, from whom he had cast out seven demons10She went and announced it to those who had been with him, while they were mourning and weeping11And they, upon hearing that he was alive and that he had been seen by her, did not believe it12But after these events, he was shown in another likeness to two of them walking, as they were going out to the countryside13And they, returning, reported it to the others; neither did they believe them14Finally, he appeared to the eleven, as they sat at table. And he rebuked them for their incredulity and hardness of heart, because they did not believe those who had seen that he had risen again15And he said to them: "Go forth to the whole world and preach the Gospel to every creature16Whoever will have believed and been baptized will be saved. Yet truly, whoever will not have believed will be condemned17Now these signs will accompany those who believe. In my name, they shall cast out demons. They will speak in new languages18They will take up serpents, and, if they drink anything deadly, it will not harm them. They shall lay their hands upon the sick, and they will be well.19And indeed, the Lord Jesus, after he had spoken to them, was taken up into heaven, and he sits at the right hand of God20Then they, setting out, preached everywhere, with the Lord cooperating and confirming the word by the accompanying signs

1Since, indeed, many have attempted to set in order a narrative of the things that have been completed among us2just as they have been handed on to those of us who from the beginning saw the same and were ministers of the word3so it seemed good to me also, having diligently followed everything from the beginning, to write to you, in an orderly manner, most excellent Theophilus4so that you might know the truthfulness of those words by which you have been instructed5There was, in the days of Herod, king of Judea, a certain priest named Zechariah, of the section of Abijah, and his wife was of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elizabeth6Now they were both just before God, progressing in all of the commandments and the justifications of the Lord without blame7And they had no child, because Elizabeth was barren, and they both had become advanced in years8Then it happened that, when he was exercising the priesthood before God, in the order of his section9according to the custom of the priesthood, the lot fell so that he would offer incense, entering into the temple of the Lord10And the entire multitude of the people was praying outside, at the hour of incense11Then there appeared to him an Angel of the Lord, standing at the right of the altar of incense12And upon seeing him, Zechariah was disturbed, and fear fell over him13But the Angel said to him: "Do not be afraid, Zechariah, for your prayer has been heard, and your wife Elizabeth shall bear a son to you. And you shall call his name John14And there will be joy and exultation for you, and many will rejoice in his nativity15For he will be great in the sight of the Lord, and he will not drink wine or strong drink, and he will be filled with the Holy Spirit, even from his mother’s womb16And he will convert many of the sons of Israel to the Lord their God17And he will go before him with the spirit and power of Elijah, so that he may turn the hearts of the fathers to the sons, and the incredulous to the prudence of the just, so as to prepare for the Lord a completed people.18And Zechariah said to the Angel: "How may I know this? For I am elderly, and my wife is advanced in years.19And in response, the Angel said to him: "I am Gabriel, who stands before God, and I have been sent to speak to you, and to proclaim these things to you20And behold, you will be silent and unable to speak, until the day on which these things shall be, because you have not believed my words, which will be fulfilled in their time.21And the people were waiting for Zechariah. And they wondered why he was being delayed in the temple22Then, when he came out, he was unable to speak to them. And they realized that he had seen a vision in the temple. And he was making signs to them, but he remained mute23And it happened that, after the days of his office were completed, he went away to his house24Then, after those days, his wife Elizabeth conceived, and she hid herself for five months, saying25"For the Lord did this for me, at the time when he decided to take away my reproach among men.26Then, in the sixth month, the Angel Gabriel was sent by God, to a city of Galilee named Nazareth27to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the name of the virgin was Mary28And upon entering, the Angel said to her: "Hail, full of grace. The Lord is with you. Blessed are you among women.29And when she had heard this, she was disturbed by his words, and she considered what kind of greeting this might be30And the Angel said to her: "Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found grace with God31Behold, you shall conceive in your womb, and you shall bear a son, and you shall call his name: JESUS32He will be great, and he will be called the Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give him the throne of David his father. And he will reign in the house of Jacob for eternity33And his kingdom shall have no end.34Then Mary said to the Angel, "How shall this be done, since I do not know man?35And in response, the Angel said to her: "The Holy Spirit will pass over you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. And because of this also, the Holy One who will be born of you shall be called the Son of God36And behold, your cousin Elizabeth has herself also conceived a son, in her old age. And this is the sixth month for her who is called barren37For no word will be impossible with God.38Then Mary said: "Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. Let it be done to me according to your word." And the Angel departed from her39And in those days, Mary, rising up, traveled quickly into the hill country, to a city of Judah40And she entered into the house of Zechariah, and she greeted Elizabeth41And it happened that, as Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, the infant leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit42And she cried out with a loud voice and said: "Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb43And how does this concern me, so that the mother of my Lord would come to me44For behold, as the voice of your greeting came to my ears, the infant in my womb leaped for joy45And blessed are you who believed, for the things that were spoken to you by the Lord shall be accomplished.46And Mary said: "My soul magnifies the Lord47And my spirit leaps for joy in God my Saviour48For he has looked with favor on the humility of his handmaid. For behold, from this time, all generations shall call me blessed49For he who is great has done great things for me, and holy is his name50And his mercy is from generation to generations for those who fear him51He has accomplished powerful deeds with his arm. He has scattered the arrogant in the intentions of their heart52He has deposed the powerful from their seat, and he has exalted the humble53He has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich he has sent away empty54He has taken up his servant Israel, mindful of his mercy55just as he spoke to our fathers: to Abraham and to his offspring forever.56Then Mary stayed with her for about three months. And she returned to her own house57Now the time for Elizabeth to give birth arrived, and she brought forth a son58And her neighbors and relatives heard that the Lord had magnified his mercy with her, and so they congratulated her59And it happened that, on the eighth day, they arrived to circumcise the boy, and they called him by his father’s name, Zechariah60And in response, his mother said: "Not so. Instead, he shall be called John.61And they said to her, "But there is no one among your relatives who is called by that name.62Then they made signs to his father, as to what he wanted him to be called63And requesting a writing tablet, he wrote, saying: "His name is John." And they all wondered64Then, at once, his mouth was opened, and his tongue loosened, and he spoke, blessing God65And fear fell upon all of their neighbors. And all these words were made known throughout all the hill country of Judea66And all those who heard it stored it up in their heart, saying: "What do you think this boy will be?" And indeed, the hand of the Lord was with him67And his father Zechariah was filled with the Holy Spirit. And he prophesied, saying68"Blessed is the Lord God of Israel. For he has visited and has wrought the redemption of his people69And he has raised up a horn of salvation for us, in the house of David his servant70just as he spoke by the mouth of his holy Prophets, who are from ages past71salvation from our enemies, and from the hand of all those who hate us72to accomplish mercy with our fathers, and to call to mind his holy testament73the oath, which he swore to Abraham, our father, that he would grant to us74so that, having been freed from the hand of our enemies, we may serve him without fear75in holiness and in justice before him, throughout all our days76And you, child, shall be called the prophet of the Most High. For you will go before the face of the Lord: to prepare his ways77to give knowledge of salvation to his people for the remission of their sins78through the heart of the mercy of our God, by which, descending from on high, he has visited us79to illuminate those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, and to direct our feet in the way of peace.80And the child grew, and he was strengthened in spirit. And he was in the wilderness, until the day of his manifestation to Israel
