Job

The book of Job tells the story of a blameless and upright man named Job who lives in the land of Uz. Satan questions Job's devotion to God, suggesting that it is only because of the blessings he has received. God allows Satan to test Job, who loses his livestock, servants, and children, but still refuses to curse God. Job's friends, Eliphaz, Bildad, and Zophar, come to comfort him, but instead offer empty words and accusations, leading to a series of debates about God's justice and Job's innocence. A young man named Elihu intervenes, offering a more nuanced understanding of God's ways and the role of suffering. Finally, God speaks to Job, questioning his understanding of creation and the workings of the universe, and Job acknowledges his own limitations and repents for speaking about things he didn't understand. God rebukes Job's friends and restores Job's prosperity, giving him twice as much as he had before.
