Genesis

The book of Genesis tells the story of creation, from God forming the heavens and the earth to the early history of humanity. It begins with the creation of Adam and Eve, the first humans, and their disobedience in the Garden of Eden, which led to their expulsion. The story then follows the descendants of Adam, including Cain and Abel, and the genealogy of the early patriarchs, including Noah, who built an ark to save his family and two of every kind of animal from a worldwide flood. After the flood, the story follows the descendants of Noah's sons, including Abraham, who was promised by God to be the father of a great nation. Abraham's story includes his journey to Canaan, his wife Sarah's barrenness, and the birth of their son Isaac. The story then follows Isaac's son Jacob, who had 12 sons and struggled with his brother Esau. Jacob's son Joseph was sold into slavery in Egypt but rose to become a powerful leader, and his brothers eventually joined him in Egypt, where they were reunited with their father Jacob. The book concludes with the death of Jacob and Joseph, and the Israelites' settlement in Egypt.
