2 Chronicles

The book of 2 Chronicles begins with the reign of King Solomon, who established himself as king over Israel with God's presence and favor, and built the temple in Jerusalem. After Solomon's death, the kingdom was divided, and the book follows the history of the kings of Judah, including Rehoboam, Abijah, Asa, Jehoshaphat, Jehoram, Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, Hezekiah, Manasseh, Amon, and Josiah. Each king's reign is marked by either faithfulness or unfaithfulness to God, with the faithful kings experiencing prosperity and the unfaithful ones facing punishment. The book highlights the importance of seeking God and following His laws, and it concludes with the Babylonian exile and the desolation of the land of Judah for 70 years, setting the stage for the return of the Jews to Jerusalem and the rebuilding of the temple under the Persian king Cyrus.
