2 Samuel

David, after the death of Saul, became king over Judah and later over all of Israel, establishing Jerusalem as his capital and bringing the ark of God to the city. He defeated the Philistines and other enemies, expanding his kingdom and establishing a strong government. However, David's personal life was marred by sin and tragedy, including his affair with Bathsheba and the subsequent death of their child, as well as the rebellion of his son Absalom, who was eventually killed in battle. After Absalom's death, David was restored to the throne and showed mercy to those who had wronged him. He also made amends for Saul's bloodguilt and defeated the Philistines in several battles. In his final days, David reflected on his life and the covenant God had made with him, and he praised God for his deliverance and salvation. Ultimately, David's reign came to an end, and he was succeeded by his son Solomon.
