1 Peter

The book of 1 Peter is a letter to believers who are facing trials and persecution, encouraging them to set their hope on the coming revelation of Jesus Christ and to live holy lives. They are exhorted to put away malice and deceit, and instead to long for spiritual nourishment, living as living stones being built into a spiritual house with Jesus Christ as the cornerstone. Believers are called to live honorably, submit to authority, and follow Christ's example of suffering unjustly, with wives submitting to their husbands and husbands living with their wives in an understanding way. The letter also emphasizes the importance of living in unity, sympathy, and brotherly love, and of using one's gifts to serve others and glorify God. Elders are exhorted to shepherd God's flock willingly and eagerly, while younger individuals are to submit to the elders and clothe themselves with humility, with all believers being called to be sober-minded and watchful, resisting the devil's attempts to devour them.
